Summer Programs for Kids

SHARE

Thank you for your interest in our programs for young people! For summer 2026, we’re thrilled to offer two options for kids interested in learning more about sea turtles. This summer, we’ll be hosting a half-day Sea Turtle Environmental Camp in addition to our returning Sea Turtle Ambassadors program.

Sea Turtle Environmental Camp

We’re thrilled to bring back our Sea Turtle Environmental Camp for curious kids! The goals of our half-day camp are to teach kids about sea turtles, expand their connection with nature, and go on outdoor adventures throughout Halifax.

While every session will learn about the basics of sea turtles in Canada, each session will also have a special topic that the group will focus on.

Session 1: All About Leatherbacks
July 13-17

This week, we’ll focus on the leatherback, the most commonly found sea turtle in Atlantic Canada. Learn all about what makes this living dinosaur unique!

Session 2: Hardshells & Sea Turtle Patrol
July 27-31

Learn about how we search for and rehabilitate cold-stunned sea turtles and participate in our sea turtle hospital event on July 31.

Session 3: Creative Conservation
August 10-14

Sometimes, conservation requires you to get crafty. Help us prepare for our annual Jellyfish Fashion Show with a focus on crafts, costumes, and fashion.

Each week will end with a public education event at the Sea Turtle Centre where campers can share their newfound knowledge with the public!

Sea Turtle Ambassadors

The Sea Turtle Ambassadors program gives local youth a chance to learn about various ocean topics, share their love of sea turtles, build leadership skills, and make meaningful contributions to marine conservation.

Our Sea Turtle Ambassador program is completely free and open to youth in grades 1-9 who have an interest in marine science and conservation. Participants will book one-hour shifts at the Sea Turtle Centre, where they’ll spend time with our educational outreach staff. Ambassadors will learn about sea turtles and conservation, participate in our educational programming, and develop skills in science education and outreach. Ambassadors may also contribute to special projects and events at the Sea Turtle Centre throughout the summer!

Available program times will vary by week throughout July and August, but shifts will typically be available on weekdays and weekends in the afternoon (12:30pm-1:30pm) or early evenings (5:30pm-6:30pm).
