I’ve been thinking about leaders and heroes today as roads around the world are flooded with protesters—people asking us to consider the importance of caring for the environment.
The photos of Greta Thunberg that move me most are the ones of her sitting alone with her sign and her purple backpack so many months ago. When it was just her and the brick street as she followed the dictates of her conscience and the truth of her heart.
Sometimes, one choice inspires millions and millions of people.
You just never know which choice it will be.
This morning, I got a call to our turtle hotline about a leatherback feeding in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. The gentlemen who saw it sent me photos. Here is my favourite:
The searing beauty of their action—doing the conservation work they saw before them for no money or recognition—is not to be underestimated.
They are Greta, alone on the street.
